Leeds is jam packed with tasty vegetarian and vegan options, so whether you are meat free for life or just the odd night, you’ll have plenty to satisfy your taste buds. Here’s our guide to the best vegetarian restaurants in Leeds.

Hyde Park Book Club

We love this place for its cool vibes, great music, and a delicious menu full of vegetarian and vegan grub. From scrambled tofu to fake meatball sandwiches and hash brown bagels (yes, really) there is plenty of choice. They also have resident DJs, art exhibitions and live music, so there are plenty of reasons to pay them a visit. They are at 27 to 29 Headingly Lane and the building is painted red, so it’s hard to miss.

Doner Summer

One of our favourite vegan restaurants in Leeds – we would love this place even if the food wasn’t delicious (it is though) just because of the excellent name. Doner Summer is a vegan junk food eatery in Call Lane in the city centre. You can eat in or get your food to takeaway, and it is open late so you can also pop in on a night out. Star of the menu is their vegan doner kebabs, which have all the flavour and tastiness of the meat version, without any of the ‘ick’ factor. The fried Chick’n, which is obviously not chicken, is also delicious and it comes with a choice of Buffalo Hot, Korean Barbecue and Honey Butter flavourings. The cocktail menu is also fairly extensive.

The Cat’s Pyjamas

So, this one isn’t entirely vegetarian, but there are so many delicious plant-based and meat free choices on the menu at the Cat’s Pyjamas in Headingly, that it makes our list. This place serves up delicious Indian street food such as okra fries, tandoori paneer and masala fries, and their Railway Potato Curry is definitely worth a try. It’s yummy!

Cantina

This restaurant is based upstairs at the Old Red Bus Station in the city centre of Leeds. Their vegan menu has all the good things such as loaded fries, burgers, and even deep-fried cauliflower. Best of all though, is their take on macaroni cheese. Their Mac Got Fat dish involves macaroni and vegan ‘cheeze’, but also Doritos, fake bacon bits and deep fried jalapenos. It can’t be ignored.

The Falafel Guys

Last but not least is the Falafel Guys, who churn out delicious Middle Eastern wraps from their bright red food van on Briggate. Falafel, obviously, features heavily, and they use their mother’s recipes to create authentic tastes and flavours. Grilled haloumi with Arabian spices is also delicious wrapped in up with houmous and fresh salad. It a brilliant quick lunch.
