The best places to live in Leeds as a student
Leeds is a true student city. There are five different universities (at last count) and a vibrant mix of people calling it home. If you’re a new student still looking for accommodation
for this autumn (or next year) then it’s a great time to start exploring the student areas in Leeds to get an understanding of where to live and where to hang out. Here’s our handy guide to the top spots for the best student accommodation in Leeds.
Hyde Park
This is probably the best-known area for student accommodation in Leeds. Hyde Park is fun, it has lots of bars, cafes, and music venues, and it’s only a fifteen-minute walk away
from the city centre. It’s laidback and cool and if you live here, you will find yourself in the thick of the student action. This neighbourhood sits conveniently between the University of Leeds and Headingley (another popular student spot), so it’s also well- furnished for public transport to and from lectures. Hyde Park Book Club is one of the most popular spots, it’s a former petrol station that hosts all kinds of events from comedy to music.

Burley
Just next to Hyde Park is Burley. It’s another vibrant student area and the two neighbourhoods often overlap and share amenities. Burley is a mile from the city centre and is served by several bus routes and has its own train station. You can find arts and culture at Left Bank Leeds, which is a former church that now hosts exhibitions and events. Then the Cardigan Fields complex will keep you entertained with a cinema, a gym and a supermarket.

Headingley
A suburb in Northwest Leeds, Headingley is the original student hub in the city. Leeds Beckett University has a campus here, and it’s a 10-minute bus ride from the University
of Leeds and the city centre. This area is full of pubs and bars, and it’s the starting point for the famous Leeds pub crawl, the Otley Run. There’s a Sainsbury’s too, and a whole host of vintage shops. Beckett Park and Meanwood Park are both nearby, offering beautiful green space for when you need to get away from it all.

Woodhouse
Woodhouse is a slightly newer student hub, just north of the city centre of Leeds and close to the University of Leeds and Leeds College of Arts. It’s home to Woodhouse Moor, which as well as offering large areas of green space, also has basketball courts, askate park and playing fields. It hosts regular live events through the summer too.

Meanwood
Meanwood sits a bit further out from the city centre between Headingley and Chapel Allerton. Because of this, it has a slightly different vibe – more relaxed, more diverse in terms of the people who live there (families and young professionals co-habit alongside the students here), and its own little network of pubs, bars and cafes. There’s
Meanwood Park too, which offers a great escape from the hustle and bustle of the city.
