Student budgets can leave you feeling more than a little uninspired when it comes to putting your interior design skills to the test and making your house feel like a home. However, there are simple things you can do without breaking the bank.
Personalise your space
If you live in a rented house, either alone or with friends, one of the first things you need to do is to (temporarily) remove and store anything personal to the owners. This will not only make room for your own stuff, but it will also give you the mental space to imagine how you would like your living area to look and feel. You may need to dust off a few cobwebs in the process, but surrounding yourself with your own style will instantly make you feel more at home.
Keep it clutter-free
Living with other people can make it hard to keep on top of the cleaning – keep possessions to a minimum so that you have less to dust and tidy round. Get organised with storage containers for anything and everything. If you organise your chaos, it will be much easier to manage. Of course, student life is all about the partying and having fun, but it is also all about the studying and as the saying goes, ‘a tidy house is a tidy mind’. An orderly living space enables you to focus and concentrate better.
Your bedroom
During your student years, your bedroom is often the one and only place to call your own. This limited space can leave you feeling stuck for ideas to create the relaxing sanctuary you want it to be, especially when the exams start. If your bed is taking up most of your floor space, make it the centre piece! Add some plush pillows and fluffy blankets to not only make it cosy but look great too. Place some photos of loved ones onto your shelves and treat yourself to a relaxing candle and a small plant – these will look and smell great but not take up too much space.
Light things up
Lighting is such a great way to uplift your student accommodation and it doesn’t have to be expensive. A couple of simple desk lamps can change the ambience of your room and is the key to feeling warm and cosy. Fairy lights draped around your bed can also add a beautiful glow.
It really is the little things that make a house a home. Whether it's a small studio flat or a large shared rental house, finding luxury student accommodation in Leeds or further afield can sometimes feel like it’s impossible to achieve. However, with a few thoughtful changes, you can really make the most of your student rental and make it a home to be proud of.
