What’s on in Leeds in November and December?
There is always something going on in Leeds, a city that loves to entertain, and this Autumn is no different with plenty on offer. Leeds has something for everyone, whether it’s a concert, museum trip or a workshop. Don’t let the dark evenings and colder days keep you home, it’s time to get out, meet new friends and explore the city. After all, ‘tis the season to be jolly’.
Here are 5 budget-friendly ideas to get you started:
Leeds International Film Festival
The Leeds International Film Festival will take place between 1 – 17 November and this will be its 38th Year in action. Multiple venues across the city will host screenings, including Everyman Leeds, Vue Leeds in the Light, Hyde Park Picture House and Howard Assembly Room. You can view the full programme here. There are concessions available including a Liff Buzz Pass for 25s and under so you can team up with six friends to book cheaper tickets and enjoy the festival together.
Autumn Lights
For the first time ever, the UK’s biggest touring firework spectacular Autumn Lights arrives in Leeds at Temple Newsam on November 2. Featuring live entertainment, fairground rides and street food stalls with two firework displays choreographed to music from around the world, this event is not to be missed. None other than Phats and Small will headline with DJ Ryan Swain and there will be fire-eaters and LED drummers – it will be a night of lights for you to remember.
Museum Lates: Living with Death
Get together with friends and explore Leeds City Museum by night on November 7 to view their Living with Death exhibition. You can meet the curators for a guided tour and get creative, decorating ceramic skulls or taking part in sugar skull-themed face painting. There will be a Mexican-themed food truck and music from South America.
Leeds Christmas Market
Christmas will soon arrive in Leeds city centre, bringing around 70 seasonal stalls from international, national and local traders to two key locations, both the Millennium and City Square’s. From November 22, the improved market will be bigger and better than ever. You might even be able to get some early Christmas shopping done while you explore a variety of festive stalls selling unique gifts, crafts and delicious treats from around the world. Every weekend, you will also find an artisan market from Little Bird on Bond Court, celebrating independent producers and makers alongside the Christmas Market. Don’t forget to look out for the sweet little pop-up bars in Victoria Gardens.
Ice Cube at Christmas
Taking place from Friday 22nd November – Tuesday 31st December, the popular Ice Cube at Christmas ice rink runs alongside the markets. The magnificent outdoor covered ice rink takes centre stage on Millennium Square. The roof will ensure sessions can take place whatever the weather and leaves you and your friends with no excuse but to hit the ice. The opening times are Monday to Friday 12pm to 9.30pm (10pm on Fridays), 11am to 10pm on Saturdays and 11am to 7pm on Sundays (except Christmas Day and Boxing Day) up until New Year’s Eve.
Leeds is such a bustling city with no shortage of events that offer something for everyone. Whether you prefer outdoor adventures or exploring museums and theatres, grab some friends and get out to make the most of the festive season.
