Whether you are new to Leeds and just settling into your first year as a fresher, or you’re returning after a long summer away, Autumn is a great time to get reacquainted with the city. There are always plenty of student events in Leeds and we have picked a few to get you started.

Leeds indie market

This is a regular feature in the city, though the location and dates vary (you can follow them on Instagram for up-to-date information). The next indie market takes place on October 8 at the Kirkstall Brewery, and you can expect to find a carefully curated mix of local makers, creators, artists and designers, as well  some workshops and live music. It’s a fun place to hang out and grab a coffee and get to know the work of some of the city’s artists.

Leeds Digital Festival

This runs at Leeds City Museum from September 20 to 30. It is a celebration of digital culture in all of its many forms, from coding, social media and AI to data analysis, start-ups, digital music and augmented reality. There are a number of free events taking place during the festival but it is essential to book your space first. It’s a great way for any students with an interest in tech to find out a bit more about how it can be used and chat to people who have made it their career.

Leeds Self-Guided Tours

Visit Leeds, the city’s tourist board, has a number of self-guided tours available for people to download. Spend some time with friends getting to know the city and cherry pick your tour according to your interests. Head to the Maps and More page on their website or pick up a printed copy from Leeds Visitor Centre. You could opt for the street art trail if that’s your bag, or go for the architecture trail to find out a bit more about some of the stories behind our buildings. You can add your own stop-offs too and find a new favourite pub, or a great little café.

Leeds Night Market

The student unions often have long lists of what’s on in Leeds and we like the sound of this night market run by Leeds University union. It takes place on September 29 at the union and entrance is free. There will be all the good things, from international street food stalls, craft beers and cocktails, and a plants and poster sale to help to furnish your student homes.

Yorkshire Circus skills

And the last one – Leeds Becket University is running a circus skills day with the Yorkshire Circus. You can try your hand at juggling, hula hooping and slacklining – all niche skills that will see you through any student party for years to come.
